Tax Preparation Assistance
St. Vincent de Paul Georgia partners with United Way of Greater Atlanta each spring to provide free income tax preparation assistance for low-income workers through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program. IRS-certified and trained volunteers prepare tax returns for individuals meeting income requirements and help working families with special tax credits such as Earned Income Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit and Credit for the Elderly for which they may qualify. This service saves working families the cost of tax preparation and ensures that all credits and other deductions that provide monetary refunds are received – making a huge impact on low-and-moderate income households.
High Interest Loan Conversion
The High-Interest Loan Conversion Program is designed to help neighbors in need who are saddled with high interest ‘Payday’, ‘Title’, and other loans convert those loans to a traditional credit union personal loan. The program provides an alternative to predatory lenders and offers individuals locked into these high interest loans financial relief. All too often people find themselves trapped in a perpetual cycle of just paying the interest and having to refinance the principal. The inability to ‘get themselves out from under’ predatory loans prevents individuals and families from becoming financially stable and self-sufficient.
Education Center + Connected Classrooms
SVdP Georgia’s Education Center provides a permanent home to a robust series of educational opportunities designed to prepare clients for long-term success such as managing finances, personal empowerment, and building a network of peers and mentors. This large, flexible learning space allows for various-sized group meetings and training sessions.
Situated in the Education Center in the epicenter of the redesigned building, the Connected Classrooms seat up to 50 people and are equipped with audio, video, and computer capabilities to allow SVdP Georgia to deliver webinars and other trainings to clients and volunteers throughout the state. The classrooms feature state-of-the-art recording capability to create content that can be stored and shared on a variety of digital platforms. These technological resources eliminate transportation as a barrier to training and services for neighbors living in rural areas.
