How To Give

Gifts Of Real Estate

Donating appreciated real estate, such as a home, undeveloped land or commercial property can make a great gift to support the mission of St. Vincent de Paul Georgia.

HOW TO MAKE A GIFT OF REAL ESTATE

All or a portion of real property you own may be given by executing a deed transferring ownership to “The Society of St. Vincent de Paul of Georgia”. Only outright gifts of unencumbered real estate are accepted and donors are required to provide evidence of clear title to property.

If you are considering a gift of real estate, please contact us in advance at gifts@svdpgeorgia.org so that we can ensure the donation complies with SVdP Georgia gift policy and that the organization is in a position to accept the real estate.

BENEFITS OF GIFTS OF REAL ESTATE

  • Avoid paying capital gains tax on the sale of the real estate.
  • Receive a charitable income tax deduction based on the value of the gift.
  • If FMV is greater than donor can use in one year, excess can be carried forward as charitable deduction up to 5 years.
  • Asset will not be subject to estate tax at time of donor’s death if given through bequest.
  • Leave a lasting legacy to benefit St. Vincent de Paul Georgia and the community.

GIFTS OF REAL ESTATE MUST BE REVIEWED AND APPROVED BY ST. VINCENT DE PAUL GEORGIA’S BOARD OF DIRECTORS.

DONORS WILL NEED INDEPENDENT APPRAISALS TO SUBMIT WITH THEIR TAX RETURNS.
