Trust in Our Lord
So much depends on the spiritual meaning of the word “trust.” What does it mean to trust, to turn one’s heart to God? It means to root the whole of one’s life in God, and not to ground our concerns in the things of the world: wealth, power, pleasure, and honor. We ask ourselves: What is the center of gravity in my life? If we feel trouble in our hearts, we should pray to our Lord to help us in any struggles we may have, to help us in setting priorities not on what I want to do but what does the Lord want us to do. As we know, our God is joyful and in our discernment on what to do, this should lead us joyfully in a direction in following our Lord in how we live our lives.
In today’s world, characterized by uncertainty and anxiety, we are called to put our trust in our Lord. As we trust our Lord, we have the faith to persevere during challenging times in our lives. We can find peace and strength to navigate through difficult times, when we may have trouble in our hearts as we place our faith and trust in God’s plan and His promises. Putting our faith in Him means relying on His teachings and example to guide us through adversity. We can find resilience and hope in the midst of challenges by staying connected to Jesus and following His teachings, knowing that He is leading us on the path to eternal life. What type of faith is great? Great faith is that which brings its own story, marked even by wounds, and brings it to the Lord’s feet asking Him to heal them, to give them meaning.
As we follow our Lord, as Vincentians, we are called to be an encouragement to others during times of challenges, to help where we can in serving our neighbors in need as we allow God’s power within us to help make a positive impact in our homes and communities. We can face challenges with confidence and perseverance by anchoring our faith in the belief that our Lord is empowering us to serve Him in serving others.
In our daily struggles, in those times when we may have trouble in our hearts, our Lord reminds us not to be troubled, to put our trust in Him. As we go forward, may we all let this truth lead us as we follow Him. Imagine finding real peace and guiding our lives through His words. Today, are we ready to fully put our faith and trust in the Lord?
The recent Gospel for our 20th Sunday in Ordinary Time shows the incredible power of faith and the boundless nature of God’s love and mercy. The Canaanite woman’s unwavering faith in Jesus is a testament to the fact that belief knows no boundaries. Despite not being a part of the Israelite community, her belief in Jesus’ ability to heal her daughter transcended any societal or cultural barriers. This story reminds us that faith is a universal language that connects us all to the divine.
