Patricia

“All my life I have been a caregiver,” said Patricia.  She owned a home with her husband and took care of her daughter who has Asperger’s Syndrome. After her husband’s death 10 years ago, she was exhausted but threw herself into her work as a network operations professional.

“I had trouble setting limits”, she said and before long her house was filled with her adult daughter, a brother who also has Aspergers and other people needing a place to stay.

I was the only one working. There was a lot of fighting and craziness going on. I couldn’t sleep. Then my income dropped and I was out of work for a few months. It was just too much for me to handle so I decided to let the house go.

Patricia moved into an extended stay hotel but after 5 weeks could no longer afford it. She was staying with a family member when she found out about SVdP’s transitional home, House of Dreams.  “I love to work.” She has been able to save some money and plans to move into a 55+ apartment community in a few weeks.

I am restarting my life strong. I have learned the word NO. I want to start living and look for happiness in my life.
