Quinn moved to Atlanta from Macon after a job loss in search of more opportunity for herself and her three children. With the children’s father abandoning them and not providing any support, the single mother was able to find work, but low wages and limited job opportunities prevented her from securing stable housing.

For several years Quinn has had stable employment in the collections industry, and although she completed high school and some college courses, she had limited financial literacy education. This led her to have a low credit score, budgeting shortfall, and higher expenses that placed her into an unpleasant situation of being evicted from her apartment. She and her children ultimately found themselves living at the Guest Inn on Peachtree Industrial since June of 2019 until she found St. Vincent de Paul.

Since the beginning of this year, Quinn has been an enthusiastic participant in the Motel to Home program. While working with her caseworkers, she has been able to reduce her expenses and pay off some of her existing debt.  With the program’s financial assistance of security deposits and first month’s rent, Quinn recently moved into a 3br/2 bath apartment in Norcross in her children’s school district. She left her motel with only a few bags of clothing, but thanks to SVdP supporters and partners, the next day her apartment was fully furnished with furniture, bedding, and household supplies. Now her new apartment is the stable home she and her children have been hoping for.

Things are looking brighter for Quinn as she recently obtained a higher paying full-time position with an automotive financing company earning $18/hr, which includes benefits and an option for overtime pay every two weeks. She has also applied for part-time employment that will help supplement her income. Quinn’s dream now is to build her savings to purchase her own home.
