Speaking Up for Those Who Cannot Speak for Themselves

Vincentians bring unique and deeply personal insight into the challenges faced by people striving to become self-sufficient. Through our direct contact with individuals and families in need, Vincentians act as friend and advocate for those experiencing poverty. When our Neighbors in Need are unable to speak for themselves in the public square, we have a responsibility to speak on their behalf.

Nationally and locally, members of the Society of St Vincent de Paul are invited to draw upon the knowledge and experience gained through home visits and direct service. By bringing these firsthand insights to lawmakers and the public, Vincentians can help shape policies that better address the realities faced by people living in poverty. We do not advocate for one political party over another. We do not advocate for one candidate over another. Rather, we share what we witness as Vincentians with the lawmakers who are considering public policy changes. We educate others about the realities of poverty today, the unforeseen or unintended outcomes of certain policy decisions, and the impact that future policy choices may have on the people we know.

The first Vincentians did this. Now is our time to do the same.

Sign up for Voter Voice to receive timely, actionable email alerts about policy issues under consideration by the elected officials who serve your local district and state. These alerts are strictly nonpartisan: You will not receive fundraising requests or messages encouraging you to support any candidate or political party.  Instead, each alert provides a brief summary of the issue, along with the option to send a prepared message — or a message you customize yourself — to your elected official.  You will receive alerts only when the Society of St. Vincent de Paul has taken an official position on a policy matter.
