Ten volunteer caseworkers with SVdP’s Motel to Home (M2H) Program have volunteered to assist the Lawrenceville Response Center in providing 3 months of housing assistance to families at risk of losing their homes due to the financial impact of COVID-19. These caseworkers will be helping with intake, verifying and documenting information, and eventually assisting with referrals for employment assistance, and earned benefits as part of a homeless prevention plan.  They will be working alongside the Lawrenceville Housing Authority, Impact46, Village of Hope, and the Georgia Center for Opportunity to achieve this goal.

All of these seasoned caseworkers have previous experience working with families living in motels or who have been recently evicted.

These caseworkers are committed to housing stability and finding solutions for the clients they work with. In the best of times families with unstable housing have difficulty obtaining the necessary documents to apply for assistance. These caseworkers understand this and are able to adapt and be creative to get the job done. We are so happy to be able to contribute our expertise to help the Gwinnett community during this health and housing crisis” said Denise Fisher program manager of SVdP’s Motel to Home program.

Families who are at risk of losing their housing due to a job loss or a reduction in hours who are living in the Lawrenceville area can apply for assistance online at www.impact46.org.

With the implementation of social distancing and the closing of non-essential businesses due to COVID-19, SVdP Georgia has experienced a 70% increase in requests for assistance during this crisis. Since March 16th, SVdP Georgia Conferences and Family Support Centers have prevented 1,629 people from homelessness through assistance with rent, mortgages and temporary lodging.
