St. Vincent de Paul Georgia Recognizes Exceptional Volunteers with 2023-24 Volunteer of the Year Awards

ATLANTA, GA (April 19, 2024) — To celebrate National Volunteer Month, St. Vincent de Paul Georgia’s Executive Director, Mike Mies, announces the recipients of the 2023-24 Volunteer of the Year Awards. The awards will honor the exemplary service of individuals and organizations that made significant contributions of time, talent, and treasure to serve Georgia neighbors in need.

In 2023 volunteers at St. Vincent de Paul contributed more than 550,000 hours to improve the lives of more than 200,000 neighbors. Volunteers helped to ensure those neighbors had food on their tables, avoided eviction from their homes, received needed maintenance medications and coordinated access to an array of holistic services, to provide Help in the face of immediate crisis and inspire Hope for sustained stability.

“We are excited to shine a spotlight on the volunteer contributions of this year’s award recipients. They are a testament to the spirit of compassion and selflessness embedded in communities throughout Georgia. When audiences marvel at the impact of our mission and the fact that ninety-two cents of every dollar donated to St. Vincent de Paul was deployed to serve the needs of our neighbors, much of the credit must be assigned to our expansive volunteer force,” said Mies. “Presenting these awards on the 191st anniversary of the founding of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul in Paris makes the evening extra special. It is also the birthdate of our principal founder, Frederic Ozanam, who was a twenty-year-old college student in 1833. I know the service of our honorees, including Holy Redeemer’s seventh-grade class, would make him as proud as I am.”

Awardees will be honored at the 2023-24 Volunteer Award Reception on Tuesday, April 23 at 5:00 pm at the St. Vincent de Paul Georgia Service Center in Chamblee. Mike will be joined by Board President, Denise Fisher to present the awards.

The 2023-24 St. Vincent de Paul Georgia Volunteer of the Year honorees are:

Adrien Chung, Individual Volunteer of the Year, who in 2023 dedicated almost 300 hours of service in seventy-two volunteer assignments at the Chamblee Service Center.

Dirk van der Grinten, Individual Volunteer of the Year, for nine years has donated the proceeds of his reliable handyman services to the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church Vincentian Chapter.

Beal Bank, Corporate Volunteer of the Year, trained to serve as caseworkers, local employees volunteer weekly in the Chamblee Service Center to interview and screen neighbors requesting emergency assistance.

Holy Redeemer Catholic School 7th Grade Class, Youth Volunteer of the Year, utilized their fundraising and friendraising skills to become St. Vincent de Paul’s Top Team in dollars and participants for the Annual ACFB Hunger Walk.

Special Recognition will also be bestowed on Rob Muething for his volunteer service to St. Vincent de Paul’s VITA grant supported tax-preparation assistance program and the 2024 Vincentian Top Hat Award Finalists. The Top Hat Award recognizes remarkable members of the St. Vincent de Paul chapters across the state.
